Showy Goldenrod (Solidago speciosa) adds a flourish of yellow plumes to the autumn landscape, blooming at the end of summer and into the fall. The upright panicled flowers are both elegant and showy. Typically around 3 feet high, the clump-forming plants have rigid stems and rich green foliage as well. They are not as aggressive as some Goldenrods, as they do not spread by rhizome. Ideal conditions will be well-drained. Showy Goldenrod will tolerate a range of soils, as long as the drainage is good, and full sun is best. An important late-season nectar source for Monarch butterflies and a wide array of other pollinators, these beneficial blooms will have your garden humming.
