Purple Love Grass (Eragrostis spectabilis) It's no wonder that this ornamental grass is preferred by professional landscapers. Purple Love Grass is a small, perennial, well-behaved ornamental grass in the Poaceae (grass family). This warm-season grass is native to central and eastern North America and is found naturally in sandy fields, along roadsides, and in woodlands. It spreads slowly by rhizomes. Plant it in open areas with well-drained, moist soil in the full sun. When it blooms it offers a misty purple tone to the garden. It can add a magical bit of whimsy to bouquets, arrangements and garden spaces. Plants mound into well formed clumps and send up 12" to 18" inch sprigs on sturdy single stems during summer and fall. Best suited for a sunny location, Purple Love Grass grows in almost any well drained soil medium, even sandy soils in rock gardens. Foliage turns a copper color in fall providing a wonderful autumn show in the garden. Once established, the plants are low maintenance and very drought tolerant. Cut back the spent stems in winter to encourage new growth for spring. Well suited for beds, borders and container plantings.

An excellent selection for gardeners who love to attract beneficial pollinators and small birds who use this ground cover for nesting!

Great choice for a rain garden
