Culver's Root (Veronicastrum virginicum)  is prized for its well-defined clean lines and strong vertical statement in the garden. The tall unbranched stems are surrounded with whorls of deep green leaves and topped with elegant spires of white flowers, blooming for several weeks in midsummer.

Native to eastern North America, Culver’s Root flourishes in full sun or light shade and tolerates a wide range of soils. It is very adaptable in the garden; try it at the woodland edge. Butterflies and numerous solitary bees, such as sweat, carpenter, and bumble, will visit the popular flowers. Mature plants can reach heights of five feet, and form a large clump with multiple stems. After blooming, the plant produces interesting seed heads that may be left in place to be enjoyed by birds or deadheaded to encourage a second late-season bloom.
