Joe Pye  (Eutrochium purpureum) is a good replacement for the invasive species, Butterfly Bush (Budleia). Joe Pye is a very tall plant, up to 6' in the best sun/soil conditions, but strong stems support the flowering plant so it rarely needs to be staked. The large, domed flower head is composed of several branches bearing tiny, pale pinkish-lavender florets. It will bloom for many weeks from July to September, becoming a magnet for dozens of species of butterflies. Also called Sweet-scented Joe Pye. It is best planted in full to almost-full sun and rich, moist soils, but is very shade tolerant. It will spread so should be planted with caution in small landscape situations.
